FLUIDITY A/W / 2018

THE CREATIVE PROPOSAL ACTS AS A PROVOCATION AND A CALL TO ARMS TO ADDRESS THE NOTION OF MATERIAL VALUE WITHIN THE FASHION SYSTEM. IF WE CONTINUE TO EXPLOIT PLASTIC AS A MATERIAL THAT ONLY FUNCTIONS AS A TOOL TO MIMIC, WRAP OR IMITATE WE WILL REMAIN IN A CLIMATE OF CULTURAL AND DESIGN UNCERTAINTY.

WHEN WE SEE PLASTIC IN A DIFFERENT CONTEXT, WE ARE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO ‘RE-SEE’ ITS MATERIALITY. THE COLLECTION THAT HAS BEEN GENERATED FROM THIS CONCEPTUAL APPROACH AND CONCERN, MOULDS BOTH THE SILHOUETTE AND SURFACE TO GENERATE A NEW STATE OF MATERIAL MOVEMENT.

AN EXPLORATION OF UNCONVENTIONAL, AND ‘VALUELESS’ MATERIALS HAVE BEEN USED TO BRING A NEW PERSPECTIVE TO WHAT WE USE. NOBLE FIBRES SUCH AS WOOL AND SILK HAVE BEEN COATED WITH SILICONE STRIPES, THEREBY CHALLENGING OUR PERCEPTION OF ‘MATERIAL’ VALUE.
